Application of fireproof coatings

Based on the rules and guidelines of the Fire Department and other internal standards such as: Section 3 of the National Building Regulations, Publication 444 of the Housing Research Center, Publication 445 of the Housing Research Center, Publication 112 of the Presidential Strategic Planning and Supervision Office..., all load-bearing structural components in high-rise buildings must be fire-proof. All load-bearing structural components in high-rise buildings must be fire-proof. The following are some of the applications of these coatings:

Residential buildings

Business and office centers

Industrial centers

Multi-storey car parks

Protective mechanism of fire retardant coatings

Intumescent coatings rapidly turn into foam in the presence of ambient temperatures above 200°C, and their thickness increases by up to 50 times. This foam will act as a flame-resistant thermal insulator, preventing the metal structure from heating up and delaying the time for the structure to reach a temperature of 500°C. This foam is strong and resistant to very strong air currents resulting from fire. The time to delay the yield point of the structure depends on the thickness of the initial paint film and the structure's structure.

Giving importance to fire retardant coatings for buildings and industrial structures is one of the characteristics of modern civilization to protect citizens from the dangers of fire and explosion. Currently, in Iran, the use of these coatings is mandatory by the Housing and Building Research Center and the Fire Department. The specifications of fire protective coatings have changed and improved significantly in the past few years. The characteristics of a coating are not only its protection against fire, but also environmental issues, structural lightness and decorative properties are other factors that distinguish a suitable coating. New standards for fire retardant coatings emphasize the absence of halogenated materials in this type of coating. Because in many fires, the losses from the release of toxic halogenated gases from fire-retardant coatings have been more than the fire itself. One of the functions of fire retardant coatings is to delay the time of destruction of the structure in order to evacuate the residents and arrive at the fire equipment. Steel structures lose their mechanical properties at temperatures above 500 degrees Celsius, which makes them unable to withstand the weight of the structure and ultimately destroy it. Intumescent fire retardant coatings have the latest technology to protect structures from fire hazards. In addition to adding the least weight to the structure, these coatings are completely clean and non-polluting to the environment and are safe for humans. In addition, they also add to the beauty of the structure.
